2023 PSCPC-IPVS International HPV Awareness Day
March 4 is International HPV Awareness Day!
Last March 5, 2023, the Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy (PSCPC), in partnership with the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) promoted the first International HPV Awareness Day in the country. The activity was joined by 255 enthusiastic attendees from all over the Metro, young and old, girls and boys, excluded in the count were those who failed to register but joined the event. Everyone had fun dancing and learning about the human papilloma virus (HPV) and the diseases that it causes, especially cervical cancer for women.
The program started with an invocation, followed by the Philippine National Anthem and the PSCPC Hymn. Dr. Carolyn R. Zalameda-Castro, PSCPC President, welcomed the guests in her opening remarks. The attendees danced, laughed, and had a great time with the energetic Zumba instructors leading the group dances. The PSCPC-IPVS Committee is composed of Dr. Marivic C. Agulto-Mercadal and Dr. Merlind M. Montinola-Morales, who were the hosts and organizer of the event. In between the Zumba sets, videos on HPV and cervical cancer were shared to the audience. The attendees proved their enthusiasm and attentiveness during the question-and-answer games after each video was shown. The winners happily took home their prizes. Dr. Renee Vina G. Sicam, PSCPC Vice President, thanked everyone and gave the closing remarks.
All the attendees went home with their loot bags, event shirt with infographics about HPV and cervical cancer, tumblers, and a copy of the Anita Komiks (a PSCPC published material about the story of Anita, a cervical cancer patient). Snacks and refreshments were also provided for all the registrants.
Truly a productive and successful event for the advocacy of PSCPC and IPVS to eliminate HPV and all the diseases that it brings.
Let us continue to fight HPV and cervical cancer for our children…Let us create ONE LESS WORRY for our country and the world.
